Too Weak?

When I try to join a gang it says that i am too weak to do so. It says i need at least 1100 power to join. How do I get more power and how do I actually see how much power I have? thanks in advance.

You can get more power doing robberies, using the training center and hit the other players. Skip to the next level also.
You can see your power in gang robberies.
